Train Collision Death Toll goes up to 25 |

News Desk: The death toll in the massive train mishap in Andhra Pradesh rose to 25. The number may increase as people are still trapped when the Hampi Express collided with a goods train.
The injured people have been admitted to the hospitals. The incident occurred at around 3:15 this morning when Hampi Express from Hubli to Bangalore rammed a stationary goods train near Penukonda station in Anantapur district.
Two coaches of the express train derailed and caught fire following the collision. The Firefighters and railway police rushed to the spot to carry on rescue operations. Initial reports say that 16 people were killed.
The engine and the first three coaches of the Hampi Express were worst hit due to the collision. The first coach is guard-cum-luggage-cum passenger coach, the second and third are general compartments. While the first and the third coaches derailed, the second remained on the tracks.
According to preliminary information available, the driver of the Hampi Express overshot the signal and rammed the rear of a stationary goods train. A probe has been ordered into the incident and the human error cannot be ruled out. Â
The Railway Ministry has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the kins of the dead. Rs 1 lakh will be given to the grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 to people who suffered minor injuries.
Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda also announced a compensation of Rs. one lakh each for the families of those killed and Rs. 25,000 for those injured.
