Breaking News! Under the pressure from the Opposition, allies and public over the steep hike in petrol price, the UPA government may rollback the petrol price partially by at least Rs 3 or Rs 2 or Rs 2.50 per litre.

However, it is not clear, but the final decision will be taken after Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy returns from Turkmenistan.

Sources said that the government will consider to rollback the petrol price as it will face big heat from its allies. The government hinted at the rollback after Congress opposed to the hike. It defended saying the party was not consulted when the decision was taken. It argued that the petrol price hike was wrong as it came a day after the budget session was over and two days after the UPA government celebrated its three years in power.

The question arises, Sonia Gandhi was not consulted when the government took the decision to increase the petrol prices on Wednesday?

Even sharp criticism and reactions were drawn from the Congress allies and some of them demanded a rollback saying the steep hike was not necessary when the price of the crude oil is low in international market.

Key allies like the Trinamool Congress and DMK have said that they were not consulted on the hike while Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to reconsider the decision.

The NDA has decided to call for a nation-wide bandh on May 31 protesting the petrol price hike of Rs 7.50 per litre. Even the government is also planning to hike the prices of diesel and LPG after a meeting on Friday.
