Hyderabad: The CBI on Thursday arrested Andhra Pradesh Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao in connection with YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy's disproportionate assets case.

The minister, who holds the Excise portfolio in the state cabinet, was arrested following the interrogation at the government guest house Dilkusha. He was arrested under sections 120-B, 420, 409 and 427-A of the Indian Penal Code.

The CBI accused him of playing a role in allotment of a large extent of land to the Vodarevu and Nizampatnam Ports & Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) project during Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy regime. Rao was the Minister for Infrastructure and Ports in the YSR Cabinet.

Following his arrest, the minister is likely to hand over his resignation to the CM N. Kiran Kumar Reddy or he may be dropped from the cabinet later.
