News Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will probe into the controversial coal block allocations after Team Anna targeted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for corruption in the allocation.

Dr Singh was severely criticised by the civil society group as the PMO was the in charge of the coal ministry between the period 2006 and 2009.

The CBI will act on an order by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). The agency will initially hold a preliminary probe into the case. Sources said that the probe will be completed by mid August.

The BJP welcomed the move saying the CVC has taken the right step by handing over the probe to the CBI. Prakash Javadekar said that the allegations against the PM will be clear after the probe.

The move came after Javadekar filed a complaint following Team Anna targeted Dr Singh. The civil society group alleged the OM on the basis of a leaked CAG report that said that the UPA government had failed to auction 155 coal blocks between 2004 to 2009, which resulted in losses to the tune of Rs 10.7 lakh crore.

However, the PMO on Wednesday had clarified on the coal block allocation claiming that the step was essential for high growth in economy.
