Breaking News! Ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan passed away on Wednesday after prolonged illness. He was 84 and had been ailing for a long a time. He died in a hospital in Karachi.

 

Hassan, who has huge fans in India, was a great Pakistani singer. Now the singer is no more, but he will be immortal for his Ghazals.


Hassan was born to a family of traditional musicians in Rajasthan. He claims to be the 16th generation of hereditary musicians hailing from the Kalawant clan of musicians.


He is famously known as the 'King of ghazal' in Pakistan. He ruled Pakistan film industry along with Ahmed Rushdi.


He has been honoured with several awards including Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by Gen Ayub Khan, Pride of Performance by Gen Ziaul Haq, Hilal-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan, and Gorkha Dakshina Bahu by the Government of Nepal.
