Chennai: DMK leaders M Kanimozhi, Dayanidhi Maran, TR Baalu, MK Stalin and several other party cadres on Wednesday were arrested in Chennai during state-wide jail bharo agitation organised by DMK against the Tamil Nadu government led by J Jayalalithaa.

Kanimozhi, who is accused in 2G case, slammed the AIADMK government for vindictive politics in the state. She alleged that her party leaders courted arrest without any proof against them.

She said that the AIADMK is indulging vindictive politics from the day when the party came to power last year. The jail bharo agitation is DMK's answer to the government. "This is not a moment for soul searching by DMK but time for soul searching by the public and the press," said Kanimozhi after her arrest.

Kanimozhi, who is out of Tihar jail on bail, is permitted by the Delhi special court to join the protest. Thousands of DMK leaders have courted arrest during the agitation today.

The DMK called for the agitation against the AIADMK government, which had ordered to conduct raid at the premises of DMK leaders in several cases. At least 15 DMK leaders and former ministers have been raided in connection with land-grabbing and disproportionate assets cases since Jayalalithaa came to power in Tamil Nadu in 2011.
