News Desk: The Indian Railways, which had introduced a new rule for booking of Tatkal tickets under the revised scheme, came into effect from Tuesday. As per the new guidelines, the Tatkal tickets can be booked from 10 am.

The railway department had decided to implement certain strict rules at the counters to act against the touts and illegal agents following the report of the Tatkal ticket booking scam.

Under the revised scheme, the passengers can book Tatkal tickets from 10 am instead of 8 am. No authorised agents including of IRCTC will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets from 10am to 12pm at the counter as well as on the internet.

The department made it clear that some zones will have separate counters for Tatkal tickets, and those can be booked from 10 am to 10:30 am.

Other measures such as installation of CCTVs at the booking counters, raids by vigilance squads and display of helpline numbers will be followed under the new revised scheme.

Another measure for augmenting the e-ticket handling capacity of its website will be taken soon. As per the new guidelines, the server capacity will be increased from 3.5 lakh bookings to about 5 lakh bookings per day in four months. Later it will be increased to about 8 lakh booking per day.

To check the illegal acts inside railway counters, the CCTV cameras will be installed and Railway Protection Force (RPF) will be deployed at the stations. The booking clerk will not be allowed to use the mobile phone during working hours.

The Railway has come up with stricter rules following the media reports that showed how touts and illegal agents are booking tickets meant for emergency travel and sold them at a premium price to passengers.
