News Desk: Former West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi backed out of the Vice presidential race, saying he did not want to contest the polls. Gandhi's name was put forward by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

The UPA yesterday nominated Vice President Dr. Hamid Ansari for a second term. However, Mamata Banerjee wanted either Gopal Krishna Gandhi or Krishna Bose for this coveted post. Both names were rejected by the Congress Party.

The BJP is undecided over the name for the Vice President. According to sources, the party is considering the names of JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav and senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh.
