Breaking News! As expected, UPA nominee Dr. Hamid Ansari defeated NDA candidate Jaswant Singh by a huge margin to get re-elected as the Vice President of the India.

Ansari became the first person after Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan to get a second term as the Vice President. He was backed by the Congress-led UPA, Left, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), RJD and many other smaller parties.

Out of the 736 votes casted in the Parliament today, Ansari secured 490 votes, while BJP leader Jaswant Singh got just 238 votes. Eight votes were declared invalid. 47 MPs abstained from voting for various reasons.

The BJD and TDP did not take part in the elections, as they wanted to maintain equi-distance from the BJP and Congress. Vilasrao Deshmukh (Congress), Jagan Mohan Reddy (YSR), Shatrughan Sinha (BJP), Dilip Singh Judev (BJP), Kabir Suman (TMC), Kakoli Dastidar (TMC) also did not vote in today's election.
