Bhubaneswar: A political satire programme called the 'Great Political Circus' triggered protest in Orissa Assembly, as MLAs cutting across the party line opposed the show and demanded a ban on it.

The Orissa Assembly witnessed five adjournments yesterday. MLAs from BJD, Congress and other political parties slammed the TV channel for airing the show and portraying the leaders of the state in a bad taste.

The MLAs who raised the issue in the assembly, were Pradip Maharathi (BJD), Arabinda Dhali (BJD), Ashok Panda (BJD) and many more. The MLAs also demanded action against the Editor of the programme. The programme has been a platform for Oriya poets to take a dig on the politicians through satire.

Mr. Maharathi raised the issue through a privilege motion during zero hour. The MLAs said that the programme was just doing the character assassination of top political leaders and lowering their image in public.

Speaker Pradip Amat said that the issue is a matter of concern and he will take appropriate action on this.
