Bhubaneswar: The dawn-to-dusk strike called by 11 trade unions of India evoked mixed response in Odisha. Some major cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela and Sambalpur witnessed some impact, but it had no effect in many parts of the state.

Banking services in the state were worst affected because of the strike. Even some 24/7 ATMs remained closed because of non-supply of cash.

The auto rickshaws and buses in Bhubaneswar stayed off the roads. However, the auto services resumed after 2 PM, bringing some relief to the commuters. The protesters blocked the roads and trains in many parts of Bhubaneswar before the police intervened to restore law and order.

The 'Bharat Bandh' was supported by many trade unions, including AICTU, CITU, INTUC, BMS and many others. They were protesting against the centre's "anti-labour" policies and demanded guarantee of labour rights, end of contract labour system, social security and personal benefits for all workers etc.
