Bhubaneswar: Odisha's abducted BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka was produced before a people's court (praja Court) on Thursday where the Maoists will decide the fate of the MLA.

The praja court has started its proceedings at a remote place in the Narayanpatna area of Koraput district on Thursday, said lawyer Nihar Ranjan Patnaik, who is fighting cases for the Maoist-backed Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangh (CMAS).

The proceedings were in progress and many tribals have been called to the court to record the statement of the Maoists. However, the lawyer did not say anything when the proceedings would be completed and the verdict on Hikaka's fate would be pronounced.

Even though, the Odisha government bowing its head to Maosits' demands has announced to withdraw all the cases against 13 jailed rebels in exchange of the release of the Laxmipur MLA, the Maoists are adamant on the release of their 29 rebels.

The Maoists had informed media stating that the fate of Hikaka would be decided by people's court on Thursday as the deadline set by them for the release of 29 jailed rebels have ended on Wednesday evening.

Hikaka was abducted by the Maoists of the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) on March 24 from Koraput district.
