Balangir: Despite ban by the Odisha government at least five German nationals went into the Maoist-hit area in Balangir and hanged about there for a week before picked up by the Police.

It should be noted that after kidnap of two Italian citizens by the Maoists in Kandhamal district, Odisha govt has banned the entry of foreigners to such sensitive areas in the state.

The Germans stayed at Turla, of Patnagarh Tehsil, near Harishankar that is 80 kms away from the district head quarter of Balangir without the knowledge of police and administration.

When the affair was revealed through media, police picked up the foreigners from the premises of an NGO along with its founder Ananta Putel on Saturday.

After interrogation and verification of their passports and visa, the foreigners were asked not to visit any Maoist-affected area and released afterwards.
