Breaking News! In a big development, a fast track in Bhubaneswar (Odisha) has convicted gangster Raja Acharya and his accomplice Akhya Behera alias Chagala in the sensational Judo Coach Biranchi Das murder case.

Judge Vivekananda Das held Sandeep Acharya alias Raja and Chagala guilty of murder. Raja had shot Biranchi dead outside his Judo coaching centre on April 13, 2008. Chagala had later surrendered in Bhopal on April 22, while Raja surrendered in Goa in May.

The court will pronounce the sentence on December 17. It is believed that Raja could be sentenced to death. Both convicts have decided to appeal in the higher court.

Biranchi Das had shot into fame in 2006 after he mentored child prodigy and four-year-old marathon runner Budhia Singh. Budhia ran a distance of 65km from Puri to Bhubaneswar at the age of four.

Later, Biranchi fell out with the human rights bodies and state government. The state government not only barred Budhia from running, but also put him in a sports hostel.

Biranchi was reportedly murdered after he upset Raja Acharya by trying to defend model-cum-actress Leslie Tripathy, who was being repeatedly subjected to harassment by the gangster Raja.
