New Delhi: In a new series of developments yesterday, the BJP and the Congress announced their manifestos for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. Both parties tried to appease their vote banks with high promises. Â While the BJP yet again played the Hindutva card with a promise to build Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Congress promised an increase in the sub-quota for backward Muslims within the OBC quota. Â The BJP came hard on the sub-quota for Muslims, saying it would scrap the 4.5 per cent sub quota for Muslims proposed by the centre, if it comes to power. Â The Bharatiya Janata Party has set its focus on creating one crore of jobs in Uttar Pradesh in the next five years. However, the Congress has promised to create 20 lakh jobs. Â While the Congress promises minimum eight hours of power during the day, the BJP has promised debt waiver up to one lakh rupee and free 24 hour electricity for the farmers. The party argued that it has provided 24/7 power supply in Gujarat too. Â The Congress just tried to strengthen the Food Security Bill to provide bettwer food facilities to all. But, the BJP went a step ahead and promised wheat ar Rs 2 per kg and rice at Rs 3 per kg to all ration card holders. Â In addition, the BJP promised free laptops for poor students and free cycles for girls. The party also promises free cow to all BPL families along with free medical treatments. Â The BJP has also come up with a promise to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in Lok Sabha, Assembly and government jobs and 50 per cent reservation in local bodies and panchyat elections. Â There is little doubt that the BJP has outsmarted the Congress with its poll manifesto. Taken aback b this, the Congress has ridiculed the BJP, saying the saffron party's manifesto is unrealistic and self-destructive. |
