News Desk: The prestige and reputation of Congress and BJP are at the stake, as India gears up for the Presidential polls 2012. Both parties are trying to build consensus for their selected candidates.

The Congress is inclined on Vice President Hamid Ansari and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and meeting its allies to build a consensus. However, the BJP has opposed this move and said the party won't accept the Congress candidate under any circumstances.

While former President APJ Abdul Kalam remains BJP's first choice, the Congress, DMK and some other parties do not want to see him as the next President.

The AIADMK supports Kalam. Some people in the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress are also willing to give him a second term. But, the Congress has launched an all out offensive to reject Kalam's candidature and gain support for its own candidate, which is yet to be finalised.

Ironically, the BJP has failed to get support from its allies so far on this issue. The JD(U) has not yet opened its cards. It seems that the Congress has an edge over the BJP. However, things might change in the coming days.
