News Desk: Vice-President Hamid Ansari seems to be the final choice of the UPA government for the Presidential poll as some of the parties except BJP are backing him for country's top post.

The Congress is now seeking the support of the Trinamool Congress for Ansari as the President of India. Already RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has extended his support to Ansari. Even the CPI(M) asked the Congress to take the initiative in building a consensus on the candidate for the Presidential election.

The Left parties are likely to support the candidate fielded by the Congress. However, it is not clear whether Congress will nominate Ansari or Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee for the post.

The Congress is trying its best to take the consensus from its allies for its candidate in the poll. If there is no consensus, election will be held for the post of President. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the ruling government to take the consensus on the issue.

However, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav refused to give his opinion on the probable candidates for the forthcoming election of the country's highest office.

He said that the President should always be a political person. The party, which is an outside supporter of UPA, said that it would favour an eminent Muslim candidate for the top post.

Even JD(U) also hinted that they would back the candidate supported by the UPA. The Congress is fielding Ansari and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as probable UPA choices for the July presidential polls.

However, the BJP has refused to support any of them. Earlier, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj had rejected the government's probable candidates saying Pranab is a Congress man and Ansari does not have the stature.

The UPA has over 40 percent of the total votes in the Presidential poll, while the NDA has less than 30 percent.
