News Desk: The political crisis in the BJP is deepening in Karnataka with the party strongman and former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa as he is yet to take his final call by Monday evening whether he will be with the party.
Yeddyurappa said that he will consult his party MPs, MLAs, and his supporters before taking any decision. The rebel leader, who was aspiring to be reinstated as the Chief Minister of the state, faced a huge blow when the Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe into illegal mining during his tenure as the CM.
The apex court's order is also a blow to the saffron party, which had won the last assembly polls for the first time in the south Indian state. It has to be noted that if Yeddyurappa quits BJP, the party will lose the Lingayat votes, the community to which he belongs.
Yeddyurappa recently slammed the BJP General Secretary H N Anantkumar, State unit chief K S Eshwarappa, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and RSS leader Satish during his visit to Siddganga mut pontiff Shivakumara Swamiji of the Lingayat community.
He accused Anantkumar of “feeding malicious information” about him to senior BJP leader L K Advani. Even about more than half a dozen MLAs and ministers loyal to the rebel leader have tendered their resignations in support of him.
However, Eshwarappa on Monday made it clear that the party will not accept their resignations.
Sources said that Yeddyurappa's loyalists held a breakfast meeting with him at his Race Course residence where the future plan will be decided by 4 pm on Monday.
Yeddyurappa might be thinking to quit the BJP as his demand for change in the leadership of Sadananda Gowda has been rejected by the BJP central leadership.
However, such development would threaten the survival of the BJP government in Karnataka as Yeddyurappa claims to have the support of at least nine ministers and 45 MLAs. The BJP has a strength of 120 members in the 225-member assembly.
On the other hand, Yeddyurappa praised Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying her party leaders are united and supportive even though she is facing trouble.
Following his statement, the senior party leaders are trying to save the party saying the comment on Sonia Gandhi was given by Yeddyurappa was out of pain and anger. Eshwarappa said that all including central leaders are with Yeddyurappa and they hope that he would come out clean in the illegal mining case.
