News Desk: Political crisis in BJP again struck when BJP National General Secretary Sanjay Joshi resigned from the party on the day when the party is set to begin its two-day national executive meet in Mumbai.

Joshi is believed to be a big critic of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for which Modi had decided to skip the national executive meeting. In a letter to the BJP President Nitin Gadkari, Joshi said that he is quitting the post in the larger interest of the party. He was one of the most trusted men of Gadkari

Hours before the national executive meet, his resignation indicates the rift between Gadkari and senior leaders.

However, suspense still prevailed over Modi's presence at the meeting. Sources said that Modi may attend the meet as Joshi will not be there.

Modi was upset with Gadkari after Joshi was reinstated in the party and made the in-charge of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. He had earlier resigned from the post in 2005 over a sex CD row.

Even Modi had skipped the Uttar Pradesh campaign and had not attended the last parry conclave in December 2011 in Delhi.

The national executive meeting is significant as it would be the first major gathering of BJP's top leaders ahead of the Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly polls, which are scheduled by the end of this year.
