Breaking News! Snubbing the Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, the UPA finally declared Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as its nominee for the Presidential poll.
At a high-level meeting on Friday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi announced Pranab's name as the UPA man for the poll. Sources said that all the UPA allies except Mamata’s Trinamool Congress endorsed Pranab as the next President of India.
The UPA appealed to all political parties to back Pranab to elect him as the President of India.
With the nomination, Paranab is likely to resign from his post as the Finance Minister on June 24.
Sources said former president APJ Abdul Kalam, who has been marinating silence having support from the TMC, is unwilling to contest the poll against Pranab.
