News Desk: While Congress is seeking support from other political parties for Pranab Mukherjee as the President of India, CPM leader Prasenjit Bose quit the party protesting against the decision to back UPA's Presidential candidate.

Bose said that the move to support Pranab is a 'grave error'. In an open letter, he said that party's decision to back UPA's candidate for the Presidential poll will harm the party and disturb Left unity.

However, his resignation has not been accepted yet. Bose is believed to be close to CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat. He is the former head of party's research unit.

He said that party's Polit Bureau is committing another mistake without learning anything from the past. In a letter, he said, "Party members are aghast and exasperated that their concerns are falling on deaf ears. Therefore, with great pain and agony, I tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Party".

He suggested if the party is too weak to field its own candidate against Congress and BJP backed candidates, it is better to abstain from the polls.
