Breaking News! Under severe criticism from various quarters, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has withdrawn the controversial order, which allowed the MLAs to buy expensive cars up to Rs 20 lakh from their local area development fund.

Akhilesh had triggered a storm when he offered Rs 20 lakh to the UP MLAs and MLCs for buying cars with a rider that those vehicles should be bought under the government's name and to be returned when the terms of MLAs/MLCs expire.

The BSP, BJP, RLD and Congress MLAs objected the move and refused to accept the offer. After the media took up the case, Akhilesh had no option but to back out.
