News Desk: After sweeping the municipal election in Delhi, the BJP maintained its dominance in the urban local bodies in Uttar Pradesh municipal corporation polls by winning 9 out of 12 mayoral posts.
The saffron party has improved its tally by one seat as compared to polls in 2007. The victory was predicted as the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) abstained from the polls. Both the parties supported the candidates of other parties instead of fielding their own candidates.
For Congress, it was another defeat after the assembly polls. While SP backed IS Tomar defeated BJP's Gulshan Anand to win Bareilly seat, the Allahabad and Ghaziabad seats were secured by the independents candidates.
It is the BJP, which dominated the polls. The assembly elections could not bring positive results for the party, but it is assumed that it is quite accepted by the urban people.
However, the results for the nagar parishads and nagar panchayats have not been announced.
