News Desk: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar and party member Praful Patel have resigned from the Union Cabinet on late Thursday night after the Presidential poll ended.

Pawar was said to be upset with the UPA for not being made as top leader in the government after former finance minister quit for the presidential poll.

The duo sent their resignations to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying they will not attend their offices on Friday. The development showed a fresh rift in the coalition government after the presidential poll.

Soon after the resignation, Pawar met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for about 20 minutes at her 10 Janpath residence. However, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has reportedly not accepted their resignations.

Last evening, both Pawar and Patel had skipped a cabinet meeting. The Congress will discuss the latest coalition crisis at a meeting today evening.
