| Leh Floods: 115 dead, 25 Army Jawans missing |

BNO Desk: Massive floods, which followed after the cloudbursts, killed at least 103 people in the Leh region. Several people, including 25 Army jawans are missing, as the CRPF camp was washed away by the flood waters.
All 103 bodies have been recovered so far. Over 400 people are reportedly injured. The casualties may go up further, as the rescue and search operation are going on in full swing. All flights to and from Leh have been suspended except for the relief planes. J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah rushed to Leh to monitor the situation. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh each to next of kin of each deceased. The J&K government will also provide a relief of Rs 2 lakh to the familes of each dead. Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will reach Leh today with relief materials and medical professionals. The Army, paramilitary forces and the state police are coordinating to streamline the rescue and relief operations. the communication system in many areas have collapsed. While 25 jawans are still missing, 50 others were rescued from the flooded areas. At least six armymen and policemen were among the dead. |
