Nagpur: Despite losing both openers for just six runs on board, South Africa staged a great come back to stay on top on the opening day of the first test match against India in Nagpur. Jacques Kallis hit a superb century and supported by Hashim Amla to consolidate the innings.

Kallis and Amla have so far added 201 runs for the third wicket. South Africa were 207/2, when reports last received. Kallis was batting on 121, while Amla was batting on 71. For India, Zaheer had taken both wickets.

India had high hopes on Harbhajan Singh, but he proved completely ineffective and expensive too. Amit Mishra has been economical, but failed to take any wicket so far. Kallis equalled Sunil Gavaskar, as he hit his 34th hundred.
