New Delhi: The four-time World Cup Hockey champion Pakistan slumped to its worst-ever performance, by finishing at the bottom among the 12 teams that took part in Hockey World Cup 2010 in New Delhi.

Pakistan started their disastrous World Cup campaign by losing to India 1-4 in the opening match. The only saving grace for them was that they beat Spain in a league match. Today's Pakistan Hockey was put into shame, when the team went down to lowly Canada 2-3 and finished 12th.

Pakistan Hockey Federation President Qasim Zia sacked the national hockey management and the selection committee after the dismal performance of the team. The sacked chief selector Hasan Sardar had already announced his resignation.

The Pakistani players are heart-broken. All the 18 members of the national team submitted their resignations. They owned up the moral responsibility for the poor performance and wanted the youngsters to take over.

It would be very difficult for Pakistan Hockey to revive after this humiliating performance. It seems that Sports in Pakistan has taken a severe beating. Even, Pakistan cricket is in turmoil, as seven key players were either banned or fined for their poor performance in Australia.

Pakistan team is known for its ever lasting passion, never say die spirit, positive mindset and indigenous skills .But, in current scenario neither in cricket team nor in hockey team these are prevailing.Bang on the basics and make available opportunities for youngsters.

i did not ever seen such poor and worst performance by pakistan hockey team which only claimed of their win but did nothing in the field. Such management which selected the team and the players alwayes show dreams but actually do nothing because both are corrupt and inelligible. Curse on both of these ones for this humilitating performance.

The terrorism has destroyed pakistani sports. The authority of pakistani sports should think twice before sending the teams to any competeotion again. The attension of pakistani politician should be on the issue.

the management & coach must be changed including President PHF & not the players, New coach should be Shanaz Sheikh, u can do better, look the matches Pak Vs Spain, Austrilia & GB (upto 2-2).Same team play like Champion, after that why they loose.

@R K Sharma, What of India doing state terrorism in Kashmir?

+2 #2 R K Sharma 2010-03-12 10:18
Terrorism as a state policy followed by Pakistan to trouble India had already started pinching the Pakistanis. Now the impact is revealing itself in the sports field. No foreign team or player is willing to travel to Pakistan. Grass root players should get opportunity to interact, play and watch the quality players if any sport has to prosper.
