Breaking News! A day after one of the senior members of the sustainability commission resigned on Bhopal tragedy issue, the London Olympics Organising Committee said that the Dow Chemicals will remain the sponsor of 2012 London Olympics.

London 2012 chief executive, Paul Deighton said that the organisers were comfortable with Dow and it will remain the main sponsor of the significant game.

Paul clarified a day after Meredith Alexander, who is one of 12 commissioners of the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012 watchdog, resigned from her post on Thursday, citing concerns about Dow’s relationship with the company, which was responsible for 1984 Bhopal gas disaster.

After Alexander's resignation, senior Labour party leaders Keith Vaz and Tessa Jowell had also called for an audit of the process by which Dow Chemical was granted for the sponsorship.

Alexander in her statement said that she does not want to defend the Dow Chemicals as the company was responsible for one of the worst corporate human rights violations.

Dow is a major sponsor of both the London Games and the International Olympic Committee to fund for the wrap around the stadium. Alexander wished Dow to withdraw the wrap contract on moral grounds alleging London 2012 is showing contempt for the Bhopal victims.

However, London 2012 chief executive, Paul had insisted that the committee would not consider tp award the contract to Dow any more after Alexander's resignation.

Dow has 100 million pounds deal with the International Olympic Committee. It is the parent company of Union Carbide, whose Bhopal plant had killed tens of thousands of people.
