News Desk: Wrestler Sushil Kumar, who had won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will be India's flag-bearer at the London Olympics 2012. It was announced by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

Sushil will lead the Indian contingent at the opening ceremony. Sushil was chosen ahead of Shooter Abhinav Bindra, Boxer Vijender Singh and Tennis player Leander Paes.

Bindra, who won India's first-ever individual gold medal in Olympics history, was IOA's first choice. However, since his 10m air rifle event is scheduled just three days after the opening ceremony, he was spared so that he could focus on his game.

IOA's second choice Vijender Singh's event is also scheduled for the next day of the opening ceremony. Since Leander Paes had led the Indian contingent at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Sushil Kumar got the final nod do this job at London Olympics.
