Breaking News! Saina Nehwal started her Olympic campaign on a winning note, while Jai Bhagwan won his bout in Boxing. Rower Swarn Singh Virk won the repechage in singles sculls to enter the quarterfinals.

World No. 2 Saina Nehwal defeated 65th ranked Swiss Sabrina Jaquet 21-9 21-4 in just 22 minutes. Saina will take on Lianne Tan of Belgium in another group E match tomorrow.

In Boxing, Jai Bhagwan defeated Allisop Andrique in the Men’s Light (60 kg) category 18-8. Apart from these three, India had a very disappointing day today. Shooters Heena Sidhu and Annu Raj Singh bowed out of the women's 10m air pistol event. They failed to qualify for the finals.

In Archery, the women's team faced the same fate as their male counterparts. The World No. 2 trio of Deepika Kumari, Chekrovolu Swuro and Laishram Bombayala Devi went down 210-211 to Denmark's Carina Christiansen, Maja Jager and Louise Laursen.

In Table Tennis, India's Soumyajit Ghosh went down to higher ranked Kim Hyok Bong of North Korea in the second round. He lost 11-9, 6-11, 5-11, 9-11, 7-11. In Badminton, Jwala Gutta and V Diju lost their second straight match to the Danish pair of Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl.
