Vijay Kumar wins Silver Medal in Shooting PDF Print E-mail

Breaking News! Vijay Kumar won the second medal for India at the 2012 London Olympics when he bagged the silver in the 25m rapid fire pistol event. Leuris Pupo of Cuba won the gold medal.

 

Vijay qualified for the finals with a total score of 585 points. He was placed at 4th position. In the final, Leuris scored a round of 34, while Vijay fired 30.

 

Vijay Kumar is serving as a Subedar in Indian Army. He hails from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.

 

This is India's second medal in Shooting at London Olympics. It is also the 4th medal for India in Olympics Shooting. After Rajyavardhan Rathore (Silver) in 2004 and Abhinav Bindra (Gold) in 2008, Gagan Narang won a bronze medal in 10m air rifle shooting at London 2012.

 

Earlier, Joydeep Karmakar narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the 50m rifle prone event after setting an Olympic record in the qualifying stage. He finished fourth in the final. Gagan Narang failed to qualify for the finals in the same event.
