After the incident in Marshaghai (Mahakalapada) yesterday in which the BDO was beaten up by angry people for storing the EVMs in his house, Section 144 has been imposed in entire Kendrapra district for 48 hours, fearing more violence. Restrictions have been imposed on all meetings, public gatherings and processions. All officials have been directed not to leave the district till further notice.
District Collector Nitin Bhanudas Jawale clarified that the EVMs spotted in a Bolero in front of BDO's residence in Marshaghai, were unused ones and they had nothing to do with the EVMs used in polls. However, he admitted that the BDO did a blunder by keeping those and action will be initiated against him.
The BSF personnel had to resort to lathicharge to rescue the BDO, who was injured in the attack. In another incident, at least one person was killed and 8 were injured in poll-related violence in Aul block of Kendrapara district.
Heavy security deployment has been made across Kendrapara district to prevent any untoward incident. Central (Kendranchal) RDC, Mr. Suresh Kumar Vashishth has reached Kendrapara to monitor the situation.
