Huawei to set up R&D Centre in Bangalore |

News Desk: Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei Technologies is on the brink of setting up its own R&D campus in Whitefield, Bangalore. It is the first company-owned research facility outside China.
The construction works at the proposed site will start in July and the campus is likely to be ready by early 2013. The investment for this centre will be around $120-$150 million.
Huawei is working in full force with a target to lay the foundation next month. So far it has obtained NOCs from the different departments of the Government. The project will be established in a 20 acres land in the Whitefield area.
China has the biggest number of Huawei’s R&D engineers to the tune of around 40,000.
Huawei India has only 6,000 employees, of which 2,200 are engaged in R&D. The company’s R&D operations in India are located across three centers in Bangalore.
The proposed R&D centre of India will develop platforms for applications and functionalities of most of its products. The centre also will develop software for networking and project solutions for its other businesses, like set-top boxes and mobile handsets.
Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. is the Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company headquartered in Shenzhen, China.
Globally, Huawei employs around 110,000 staff, 46 per cent of whom are R&D professionals.
