Breaking News! A powerful earthquake of 7.3 magnitude hit the Western coasts of Indonesia today. A tsunami alert was issued although no casualties have been reported so far. The alert was later withdrawn.

 

There was a panic among the residents in the area stuck by the earthquake. They moved out of the house and ran to safer locations. The quake hit the coast of Aceh province just after midnight.

 

The authorities are taking precautions in Simeulue, Banda Aceh and other coastal cities. No damages or injuries were reported from the quake-hit areas.

 

It could be recalled that a powerful earthquake along with a tsunami had killed over 230,000 people in Indonesia on December 26, 2004. Aceh province was the worst-hit.
