News Desk: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari returned to the country from his one-day trip to Dubai on Friday. His departure had created a speculation amid the widening tension between the government and armed forces.

The spokesperson Farhatullah Babar confirmed the report that Zardari returned to Islamabad on early Friday. He had left for Dubai on Thursday to attend a wedding party.

Meanwhile, the military chief Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani met the top commanders on Thursday to resolve the rift between the armed forces and the government. However, the military spokesperson declined to reveal the discussion over the matter.

The political turmoil widened after the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani sacked defense secretary on Wednesday and the military issued an unusual statement warning "grievous consequences".

Former Pakistani cricketer and Tehreek-e-Insaf party chief Imran Khan also hit out at the government demanding early elections in the country. He said that both Zardari and Gilani should resign seeking fresh polls to resolve the political crisis.
