Breaking News! At least 28 people were killed and scores were injured when a car bomb exploded near funeral procession in Shia Muslim district of Iraqi capital Baghdad on Friday.

Officials said that the explosion took place after the mourners was taking the body from a hospital in Zafaraniya for burial. The bomb was planted in a car and exploded at 08:00 GMT.

The blast created panic among the mourners, who had come to attend the funeral procession of Mohammed al-Maliki. Even Maliki's wife and son died in the blast. The incident site has been cordoned off.

Earlier, more than 10 people were killed and 33 others injured in two separate car bomb blasts in an eastern Shia district of Baghdad on Tuesday.

Iraq has witnessed a series of bombings targeting Shia Muslims in the past month. More than 180 people were killed since the US troops left Iraq in December.
