Breaking News! In a setback for Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Supreme Court held him guilty of contempt of court for not taking any action against President Asif Ali Zardari in corruption cases.

A seven-member bench of the court headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk summoned Gilani to appear before the court on February 13. However, Gilani's lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan argued that the PM had not committed contempt by acting on the court's order.

The report suggested that Gilani might be charged in a 'contempt of court' case. If he is convicted in the case, he will be disqualified from holding the post of PM or any public office for five years.

Earlier, Gilani had appeared before the court on January 19 in the contempt case for not acting against Zardari in corruption cases. He had defended saying the constitution of Pakistan has provided immunity to the President. Therefore, he could not act against Zaradri.

The court has been pressuring Gilani to reopen the cases of money laundering, which were closed under National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), against Zaradri in Switzerland.

The court also ordered the government to write a letter to the Swiss authorities to reopen the cases against Zaradari. The present President Zaradari is accused in the corruption cases. He had been granted amnesty under the NRO, which was issued by the then President Pervez Musharraf in 2007 facilitating former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and her family to return to Pakistan.
