News Desk: The CIA prevented another terror attack in the Arabian Peninsula by foiling an improved underwear bomb, which was believed to be plotted to blow up an airliner bound for the US.

The US security and intelligence partners overseas said that the bomb was designed by al Qaeda's Yemen-based affiliate with a more refined detonation system.

The sophisticated bomb was plotted after one year-anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden.

The White House said that the device did not pose a threat to the public. The FBI is examining the latest bomb whether it could have passed through the airport security.

It is reported that the bomb did not contain metal, which indicates that the device could have passed through an airport metal detector. However, it is not clear that the body scanners used in many airports would have detected it.

US president Barack Obama he directed the Department of Homeland Security and law enforcement and intelligence agencies to take steps to prevent such type of attack in future.
