News Desk: The death toll in yesterday's serial blasts in Damascus in Syria, has gone up to 55. The number of injured stands at 372. Many of them are in a critical condition.

Yesterday's blasts were one of the deadliest attacks in the 14-month-old uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

International mediator Kofi Annan would be a disappointed man, as his peace efforts and ceasefire are in tatters after the serial blasts.

The UN says over 9,000 people have been killed by the Syrian forces during the uprising. However, the Syrian government has claimed that over 2,600 security personnel have been killed by the rebels so far.
