News Desk: The United States Senate showed its tough attitude by approving a package of new economic sanctions on Iran to restrict it from making nuclear bomb. It comes just days ahead of the meeting between major countries and Tehran in Baghdad.

While Iran is claiming that the nuclear programme is for civilian purposes, the US sees it as a threat and pushing an additional sanction with an aim to strip Tehran's revenue by shutting down deals with state oil National Iranian Oil Co and tanker enterprises National Iranian Tanker Co.

Earlier, the House of Representatives had passed the bill in December and now the Senate and House will work on the legislation. The bill is another tool to prevent Iran from uranium enrichment activities.

With the approval of the sanctions, the US warned of halting the nuclear programme or face another round of economic sanctions. The new sanctions suggested the penalties against the foreign institutions trading with Iran's central bank.
