News Desk: Egypt's ex-President Hosni Mubarak was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Cairo on Saturday. He was convicted of killing the protesters during last year's uprising.
However, Mubarak and his two sons Gamal and Alaa were acquitted on corruption charges. The court awarded life in prison to former interior minister Habib el-Adli on charges of killing the protesters.
The Egyptian uprising had ousted Mubarak from power, who had ruled the country over 30 years. He is the first Arab leader, who was facing trial since 10 months for killing of over 850 protesters during the uprising.
The Judge Ahmed Refaat insisted his trial had been a fair one. He said that the Egyptians had suffered 30 years of darkness under Mubarak's rule.
Minutes after the verdict, scuffles broke out in the Cairo courtroom.
