News Desk: In a battle between the government and judiciary, a Pakistan court has issued a notice to the President Asif Ali Zardari in response to a contempt of court petition filed against Zardari.
Hours after the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP) nominated and elected senior leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as the new Prime Minister of the country, the Lahore High Court on Friday issued the notice to Zardari's principal secretary observing the bench should hear the case as it has raised some important legal questions.
The petitioner's lawyer argued that Zardari should be summoned to explain his position. Earlier, the Supreme Court had dismissed Yousaf Raza Gilani from the post of Prime Minister in a contempt of court case.
The petition was filed by lawyer Muhammad Azhar Siddique against Zardari for not giving up his political office as the chief of the PPP. He alleged that Zardari is holding dual offices and misusing his power for the activities of the PPP.
