News Desk: A suicide bomber stormed a wedding party killing an MP and 22 others in the north of Afghanistan on Saturday. The attack created a panic in the region. However, no outfit has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
MP Ahmad Khan was killed after the attacker detonated the explosives strapped around his waist when all had gathered at his daughter's wedding party. The head of the local intelligence was also killed in the blast.
The blast occurred during the celebration, to which most of the VIPs and high-ranking government officials were invited, in Aybak, the capital of Samangan province.
The MP was a former militia commander during the decades of conflict in Afghanistan.
According to latest reports by the head of public health department of Samangan, 15 people were killed and 60 were injured. However, police put the toll higher. As per the police report, the blast killed 22 leaving more than 100 injured.
The media reports said that the two storey wedding hall was shattered and blood-stained turbans, shoes and clothes of the guests were seen around the hall.
The attacker disguised himself as a guest. He blew himself up at the entrance of the hall, where the officials were welcoming guests.
